Understanding and Function Jetty For Beach
Understanding and Function Jetty - What is a Jetty? Understanding Jetty is one of the coastal protective buildings built perpendicular to the beach and placed on both sides of the estuary of the river that leads to the sea.
What is the function of a jetty?
Function of a Jetty is to reduce the occurrence of transplantation due to sediment carried by the current up to the coastline. Sediments may disrupt the traffic of ships that will pass in the cruise line.
Jetty beach protective building also serves to prevent siltation in the estuary, its relation to flood control.
Types of Jetty for Coastal Protection Building
- Long Jetty
Long jetty if the length of the end is outside the broken wave. This type aims to block the entry of sediment into the estuary, and if using this construction cost is very expensive So if its function is only for flood penaggulangan then the use of long jetty is not economical. This building is used if the area that must be protected against the flood is very important. - Medium Jetty
Medium jetty when the tip is on the receding water level and the location of the breakwave that serves to hold some sediment transport along the coast. - Short Jetty
On a short jetty if the foot of the end of the building is on the surface of low tide. This short jetty has a function to hold the deflection of the river mouth and concentrate the flow on a predetermined groove in order to erode the sediment.
